Editing the Rough Cut

Today we began editing what would soon become our Rough Cut. The first thing we had to do was detach the audio off of a clip of Louise and Joe singing the song so we had a track to create the music video too. To do this all I had to do was right click on the video and click detach audio. We then deleted the clip so we just had the audio.

While editing the video, we thought we had recorded more footage than what we actually have. Our music track is 5 minutes long so to get around this problem we've had to keep repeating the same shot over and over. However, so it flowed nicely we would sometimes cut down the length of the same shot use or only show a small segment.

Above is an image of Louise and Joe singing the song that we just recorded at random. However, when we realised that we didn't have enough footage, we decided to look back on all of the out takes recorded to see if we could use any of them. We stumbled across what we have called the 'Gazebo Shot' which we have edited into the rough cut. This shot is contrasted and juxtaposed to the rest of the formal footage and we liked this shot so much that we will probably use it in the final project.

First Day of Filming - 'Kiss Scene'

Today was our first full day of filming and as to be expected we learnt a lot about what worked best for us, what didn't work, and what we needed to change. The very first thing we did was take photos of every room and place that we were going to be recording in and we did this for continuity purposes.
On my post labelled 'Setting' the pictures are shown via a photo album.

We also took pictures of our cast in dress again for continuity purposes. Below are the images we took.

The first scene we decided to film was the argument/kiss scene. We decided on this because the actors felt a little 'awkward' about this scene so we thought it best to get it done and out of the way. We recorded the scene a few times to see which shots worked best and finally got the shot we needed, shown below.

We first filmed the kiss scene with the two actors miming an argument however when we watched the scene over, it didn't seem very realistic. As we had no set script we decided to allow them to improvise, and rather than actual arguing with each other, they shouted out names of fruit! As the sound would be cancelled out in the actual music video, and as long as it looked realistic we didn't mind and it was actually entertaining!
